Accommodation

Your stay will be at our apartments (or partner) in Akureyri which will provide you comfort.  Here you have access to the private hot tub.

You will live in our or partner apartments in Akureyri and enjoy a great deal of comfort. You have access to the private hot tub.

Transportation

Transport for this retreat in included between apartment and yoga studio and on all excursions.

Starting with pickup at Akureyri airport on Sunday (16:30, 17:45 and 20:20), SBA busstop (18:30), Straeto busstop (15:30).

  1. In summer, it is recommended to arrive by bus so that you can see a lot of the country, especially the impressive trip over Kjöllur.  The bus also makes stops at Geysir and Gullfoss, passing the entire Western Highlands.  It makes a longer stop at the geothermal area of Hveravellir with a view on the Langjökull glacier.  There you have time to bath in the hot springs!


Yoga

The yoga sessions are conducted by Ulrica Seiler, whose teaching is deeply rooted in the traditional yoga practices of asana (yoga postures), pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation. Her yoga style is largely influenced by Anusara Yoga, a modern style of classical Hatha Yoga. The daily yoga units take 2-3 hours and take place indoors and outdoors in nature. Typically, the morning session is in a brand new Yogashala, the afternoon session is in pure natural Iceland.


Hiking

The hikes go through the diverse landscapes of North Iceland. The duration varies between 3-5 hours and takes place in a technically simple level. A guide will accompany you on all tours.


Meals

Breakfast can be prepared in the well equipped kitchen in each apartment. For lunch you should always have a small lunch box set, since we are on tours. Dinner is held each night at a local restaurant or cafe.

Day 1
Sunday: Individual arrival in Akureyri

When you arrive, you can relax in your room, or enjoy your first dip in the swimming pool of Akureyri, with the 3 different "heiter pottur" (hot pots) and a steam bath. By evening at 6:00 pm, you are invited to take a short city tour to share the beautiful Icelandic scenery for the week. You are welcomed here in Iceland with a fantastic vegetarian dinner in the countryside.

Day 2
Monday: Yoga in the middle of the fjord

This morning is started with an indoor yoga session. By the early afternoon, we will drive along the west cost of Eyjafjörður in the north before we get to the Sævar ferry. The ferry will take you to the small island of Hrísey, where the fjord is located. With a short walk, you will see one of the most spectacular viewpoints! Considered as one of the most powerful places in Iceland, this is the perfection location to rest and enjoy more yoga!

We will walk across the island and enjoy the beautiful life of birds. Later, we go back to town and get cozy in the warm pool to enjoy the incredible view. For dinner, we will stay in Hrísey to enjoy a local fish dish. In the light of the midnight sun, we will be taken back to the mainland by ferry. The hike is 1.5-2 hours.

Day 3
Tuesday: In Mývatn - yoga on hot ground

The morning starts with a 1.5 hour indoor yoga experience. At noon, we start our journey to one of the most awesome areas of Iceland called Lake Mývatn. Here we experience a world of wonder of an active volcano and its hots springs with bubbling mud pools and bright colors.

We will first stop at Goðafoss, called "the waterfall of the Gods". This is a perfect spot to do yoga at the sand beach. Later we will reach Mývatn, where we explore the diverse landscapes on different hikes. This includes the green pseudocraters of Skútustaðir, the mystical lava towers of Dimmuborgir and the colorful world of active volcanos at Krafla and Námaskarð.

Later, it is time to relax and enjoy the warm waters of the Nature Baths. This Blue Lagoon of the North has spectacular views over the Lake Myvatn area. For dinner, we will will enjoy local fare overlooking Dimmuborgir and the lake. Facing the midnight sun, we make our way home. This hike is 1.5 hours.

Day 4
Wednesday: Tröllaskagi - In the mountains of the trolls

We meet in the morning with an indoor or outdoor 1.5 hr yoga session. By noon time, we drive north to the peninsula of the trolls. We will see the Svarfaðadalur, one of the most beautiful valleys of the North.

We will drive far into the mountains before we reach the end of the valley where there's an old farm called Skeið. Myriam, our hostess, will serve us classic Icelandic dishes including grilled lamb, fish and vegetarian food. The mountains provide a beautiful backdrop to enjoy another energizing yoga session to feel the beauty and peace of Iceland.

After yoga, we will walk through the valley to a small mountain lake. You may rest here or join another yoga session. The hike is 2 hours.

Back at the lodging,you can enjoy time in your own outdoor jacuzzi.

Day 5
Thursday: Gorgeous view of the fjord

The morning is greeted with a beautiful 1.5 hr indoor yoga experience. After lunch, we go for a lovely hike to enjoy stunning views from above the cliffs over the fjord. On this scenic spot, we do another yoga sequence. Hike is 2-3 hours.

After this, there is time to relax at the brand new SPA!

Day 6
Friday: Yoga at rushing waterfalls

The morning starts with a 1.5 hr yoga session. After, we hike to one of the undiscovered paths of the north by following the waters of the river Myrka, which is surrounded by the mountains of Hörgárdalur.

The sound of the beautiful rushing waterfalls provides us the perfect setting for a yoga session. From there, we head on to the next river and more waterfalls! We will end up in the town of Akureyri for relaxation or enjoying a dip in the geothermal water.

You will be taken back to the bus station or airport in Akureyri. Please do not plan your return trip before 4pm. The hike is 1.5 hours.

  • Daily 2 yoga sessions: a yoga session in the morning in the modern Yoga Studio and afternoon yoga in the middle of Icelandic nature (depending on the excursion and the weather)
  • 5 nights accommodation (in shared double or single room with extra charge) in modern and charming apartments, within walking distance to the most beautiful corners of the small town Akureyri. The apartments have their own outdoor jacuzzi in the garden
  • Excursion to the island of Hrisey "Pearl of the North" with an experienced guide, a nature reserve in Northern Iceland, including ferry ticket as well as entrance to the swimming pool
  • Tour to the famous Myvatn area with an experienced guide, including admission to the "Myvatn Nature Baths"
  • Excursion to Tröllaskagi, the "Troll Mountains", with an experienced guide
